Social Justice in Action
A big reason for talking about the Zoot era is was because
we felt that it allowed us to talk about social relevant issues at our school.
Because our school has such a racial divide in terms of culture, social
economic status we felt that bridging that gap could go a long way, not only in
improving the schools culture but that of the community.
With that in mind this ITU has been created with several aspects of social justice in mind. First we wanted students to be aware of the social justice issues in their community. In a project in history we give students the ability to find things they find unjust and tweet pictures or post about them which they will then reflect upon. In English we deal with the subject of stereo types and more so how we judge other and why we are judged. In Spanish we examine different cultural aspects and learn to accept these differences in different cultures. The biggest way in which we deal with social justice is in our service learning.
